Left:  Out of Storage ( 8 X 10 Oil)
This image of our sailboat outside an old dairy barn along the Point Breeze Road is a composite of our boat and that barn.

Right:  Brick Schoolhouse ( 8 X 10 Oil)
Our travels this past summer took us to New Hampshire where I found this schoolhouse scene worth painting.

Both of these pieces were part of the "Real.Small" show at the Pat Tribastone Gallery in Canandaigua.

Wild Yellow Rose  (5 X 7 Oil)

This small oil is painted from a photo taken on a walk along the ocean in Pahoa.  I like the muted tones and the soft edges against the blended background.

Picture

Autumnal Glory  (8 X 10 Oil)

I saw this image out the window of Corey Union while I was in a late afternoon meeting and wanted to capture the almost abstract nature of the splashes of color and shape.

Picture

Karl's Farm  (11 X 14 Oil)

One of the highlights of my summer of '17 was the chance to paint en plein air at the Kuerner Farms in Chadds Ford, PA.  The farm is now owned by the Brandywine Museum, and is open on select dates for painters.

Picture

Kuerner Christmas  11 X 14 Oil)

In my three hours from 4 PM to sundown in August I was able to get three paintings done.   This one I modified in the studio to potentially use as our Christmas card for the year, adding lights to the pine tree and illumination to the corner room.

Picture

Springhouse  (8 X 10 Oil)

The last of three plein airs completed on our pilgrimage to Chadds Ford in summer '17 for the Wyeth retrospective honoring his 100 th birthday.  This one is the freest, loosest, and smallest of the bunch.

Picture

Across the Lake  ( 8 X 10 Oil)

This plein air was completed at a GVPAP paint out held at Anthony Road Winery near Penn Yan.  Anthony Road supports the arts by holding an annual show of plein air painting conducted onsite and nearby the winery.

Picture

Independence Day - 30 Mile Point   (11 X 14 Oil)

We found a nearby state park complete with lighthouse and painted there on the 4th of July. Beautiful stone architecture overlooking Lake Ontario between Rochester and Buffalo.

Picture

Lockport Tug ( 11 X 14 Oil)

At an evening concert in Albion along the Barge Canal.  The original Erie Canal was a major influence in the development of Western New York, and the current canal still plays a large role in the local economy.

Picture

The Milk House (11 X 14 Oil)

This great stone addition to a lovely large barn sits on Redman Road near Brockport, just north of Rt. 104.  I spotted it while taking the road less travelled on my way home and had to paint it.

Picture

Delaware County Barn ( 8 X 10 Oil)

This barn was found along a back road near Delhi when I was searching for a schoolhouse I had heard about from one of my interns.  The graceful architecture and rolling hills was well worth capturing.

Picture

Winter Solstice '17  (11 X 14 Oil)

This plein air was completed as part of a winter solstice paint out with the Genesee Valley Plein Air Painters.  After breakfast at the Coal Tower, we painted the Pittsford landscape.  A limited palette and somber tones captured the spirit of the day.

Picture

Moondown, Oak Orchard  ( 8 X 10 Oil)

The supermoon looks great at dawn, setting over the breakwall at Point Breeze.  I saw this across the road when getting my morning paper and had to capture the peacefulness it represented.

Picture

Oak Orchard Lighthouse ( 8 X 10 Oil)

This is one of the first plein air paintings I completed after returning to new York.  We are fortunate to live in sight of the Oak Orchard Lighthouse along the south shore of Lake Ontario.   The reconstructed lighthouse was a community-building project completed ten years ago or so.   The lighthouse and the community it represents were attractive features in selecting our new cottage home on the lake.

Picture
Lighthouse Lillies  (24 X 48 Oil)

This large piece hangs above our bed and combines the lighthouse and our transplanted Tiger Lillies in emulation of a Jamie Wyeth series featuring similar icons of the sea.

Picture

Above Keuka  (8 X 10 Oil)

This plein air was completed as part of a paint out near Branchport and shown in a silent auction at Abandon Brewery.  Painted at the old Esperanza Mansion, the image captures the rolling hills of the southern Finger Lakes.

Picture

Old Esperanza (11 X 14 Oil)

High above Keuka Lake's crook, the Esperanza Mansion sits perched on a bluff with a million dollar view.  The former restaurant and inn is now sadly closed to the public and empty.

Picture

Oak Orchard Light  ( 16 X 20 oil)

The plein air was painted from our side yard overlooking Lake Ontario and the Lighthouse at Point Breeze.   Wild daisies color the lake side bank.

Picture

Mister Milo  ( 8 X 10 oil )

Our Big Island born catahoula made the transition from the island to New York with his family.  Here Milo poses in the wild foliage of our neighbor's lot, en guard.
