Troubled Water (12X24 Oil) This studio image is from a photo of my contemplative bride on a rainy-day visit to Laie Point. The natural bridge created in a rock formation off-shore is a local landmark and the huge waves that stormy morning were compelling to capture.
Ready for the Race ( 6X 18 Oil) This is one of the last Haleiwa Beach scenes I did before we moved from Oahu. The low perspective allows the white racing canoes to almost jump out at the viewer.
Pillbox Mailboxes (Watercolor, 15X22). This image is from the access road to the Pillbox Trail in Kailua, along the east side of O`ahu.
Laie Point 1 (12 X 12 Oil) This small oil was done from iPhone photos taken on a stormy Sunday morning at the cliffs above Laie. The explosive waves caught my attention.
Beach Tree (11x14 Acrylic). This image was done on poster board for our 2013 Christmas card. I try to do some original piece each year to share with friends and family along with our Christmas message.
Laie Point 2 ( 12 X 12 Oil) Painted in the same palate on the same day once back from the rainy trip to the north, this overview of the cliffs and waves was an experiment in looseness and broad strokes.
Hibiscus (11/14 Waterolor). Done from a photo I took. These yellow flowers abound here.
Inside Mark's (15x22 watercolor). I did this from a photo I took inside Mark's Garage in Chinatown where I was sitting a HWS show. I liked the challenge of the backwards lettering.
Buoys Will Be Buoys (11x 14 watercolor). This is a scene from the North Shore taken when we were visiting the Raku campsite at Mokuleia.
Shave Ice (15x22 watercolor). This Haleiwa scene captures the bridge and reflections in a local shop's window.
Molokai Beach (8x10 watercolor) I did this small beach scene from a photo I took while visiting the neighbor island and sketched it out for entry in the "Small Kine" show.
On the Rocks (Watercolor 5x7) This small watercolor is done from a photo of Holly taken on a hike in the Ko`klaus.
In the Sand (5x7 watercolor). Another "Small Kine" sketch from a photo of Holly in the surf at Molokai.
Wildflower (5x7 watercolor) This small sketch was done for exhibition in the Small Kine HWS show.
Kailua Cats (11x14) This loose watercolor captures the light and shadow along a fence at Kailua where Hobie Cat sailboats line the shore.
Kamehameha Bronze (Watercolor 3x5) This is another small sketch from the same sheet.
Kamehameha Statue (Watercolor 3x5). A small sketch of the famous bronze in downtown Honolulu.
North Shore Ironwood (3x5 Watercolor) A small loose watercolor sketch from a Sunday at the Dillingham beach.
Waimea Footbridge ( 11x14 watercolor) Taken from a SLR photo on s bright midday walking from the valley to the beach.
Under Cover (15x22 Watercolor). Done in the Wyeth/Helga style, this portrait captures my bride under her Hawaiian qulit.
Ascance (15x22 Watercolor). A study in contrast and backlighting portrays Holly in a different light.
At Sunset (15x22 Watercolor) This scene plays on Wyeth's Distant Thunder with my bride in the sand instead of the grass.
Birds (11x14 oil). This plain air was done as part of a Sunday morning PAPOH session in Manoa.
Wai'oli Tea Room (11x14 oil) A second plain air done the same day in the same location.
Wave Watching (11x15 Watercolor). This scene is a composite of photos from big wave watching days at the North Shore.
Sunset at Sunset (11x15 Watercolor). This scene is another attempt to capture the action as the sun fell into the Pacific along the North Shore.
